HELP SECTOR WELLNESS DAYS
Giving Back
SHS was excited to organize the Help Sector Wellness Days in March in partnership with Terrace Women's Resource Centre Society.
In acknowledgment of the commitment to the provision of services to the Terrace community, we were excited to host the Help Sector Wellness Days at the Terrace Sportsplex last 4 Fridays in March.
The Wellness Days featured a variety of health and wellness professionals, workshops, and activities to promote physical and mental well-being in honour of the Help Sector administrators, staff, and volunteers who tirelessly supported our community through the challenging journey of COVID-19.
The Wellness Days were an opportunity to be grounded in wellness and continue the co-creation of a renewed path forward in creating a resilient, strong, and healthy community.
COMMUNITY GRATITUDE
NORTHWEST BC: THE BOOK OF HOMELESS
Ensuring that All Voices are Heard
NW BC: The Book of Homeless project combines graphic art with storytelling. Our aim is to create a book that showcases the beautiful and meaningful stories of individuals living in precarious situations through the powerful medium of graphic art. By collaborating with a community of artists, we will work with people who have unique and inspiring stories to tell. Together, we will bring these stories to life through vibrant and expressive graphics that capture the essence of their experiences. This project draws inspiration from the Accumulate Art Gallery in London, which works with homeless individuals to create art and showcase their work. Our hope is that this book will not only showcase the talent and creativity of our artists but also provide a platform for underrepresented individuals to have their voices heard. Through this project, we believe that we can create a meaningful and impactful contribution to the world of art and storytelling.
STREET TRANSFORMATION
Food Builds Community! Front Lawn Transformation to Gardens
Our pilot project aims to transform front lawns into thriving gardens with the goal of increasing access to nutritional foods, reducing carbon emissions, supporting local ecosystems, and promoting community resilience. It offers a unique opportunity for our remote community to have a direct impact on food security and become less dependent on fragile distribution systems. It also promotes urban agriculture to increase the land used for food production and learn valuable skills around food gardening. By participating in the project, individuals, families, and youth can promote biodiversity and carbon sequestration while contributing to a larger movement toward sustainable living. The pilot project represents an innovative approach to addressing key issues surrounding food security, environmental sustainability, and community well-being.
